Labour Standards Division


The main purpose of the division


•  To make way towards fair, safe and healthy, stable, co-operative and productive work    environment for work places.
•  Setting labour standards to provide protection, security rights and welfare of the workers.
•  Adoption of national labour laws to standards laid down by the ILO.
•  Supervision of the Enforcement of Labour Standards.

Principle role of the division


•  Enforcement of Wages Boards Ordinance and the Shop and Office Employees Act.
•  Fixation of wages uner the above laws.
•  Fixation of conditions of employment.
•  Provide Interpretation of Laws to both employers and employees.
•  A supervision of inspections under the above Acts.
•  Giving effect to the wage determinations, conditions of employment through department    machinery.

(1). Wages Boards Ordinance No. 27 of 1941.
(2). Shop and Office Employees Act No. 19 of 1954.

(1). Regulations made under the Section 63 of the Wages Board Ordinance.
(2). Regulations made under Section 63 of the
